What is Tactical Recovery?

The Tactical Recovery program is based on the understanding that America’s Veterans, active military personnel, first responders, and their family members are the backbone of our country. We also know that these roles can have long-lasting, negative effects on the people who have served us all.

Depression, suicide, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and addiction rates have climbed in recent years for this population. While substance use and mental health treatment options may be available through standard providers, many individuals are reluctant to seek help because they don’t think medical professionals will understand their unique experiences and needs.

The Tactical Recovery program was created because very few addiction and mental health centers are genuinely qualified in understanding and treat Veterans. Far too often, Veterans do not receive the level of treatment they deserve from people who understand the full impact of their service.

Partnering with PsychArmor, a national nonprofit educational organization, the Tactical Recovery program provides a culturally competent and trauma-informed environment for recovery and healing. We tailor care for each individual using evidence-based practices and holistic healing methods.

Tactical Recovery Program Details

St. Joseph Institute offers trauma-informed care within a service-oriented culture, using evidence-based practices that are proven effective with Veterans.

  • VA-specific Programming Groups 5x per week.
  • Veteran Peer Support Groups 5x per week.
  • Four-part series of classes focusing on the neuroscience of pain. These classes will help them identify complementary and alternative therapies for managing pain, learn coping skills to manage their chronic pain better and learn about the brain and the neuroscience of pain.
  • Facility Amenities: A wellness spa with pool, whirlpool, sauna, and aqua bed massager; and an on-site gym.

Aftercare

St. Joseph Institute’s Tactical Recovery Program Commitment to helping our clients doesn’t end after discharge from residential treatment. In fact, we begin building your aftercare plan as soon as you are admitted.

Just as residential services are individualized to meet your unique needs, so are the plans for ongoing support. Your treatment team will research all possible support services in your home area and will connect you with appropriate resources that will guide you through long-term success. Some of these resources include:

  • Intensive outpatient counseling
  • Referral to private therapists for ongoing mental health
  • Connection to local support groups (AA/NA, Celebrate Recovery, Smart Recovery)
  • Sober Living Environments
  • Other supportive resources in your community
  • Relapse prevention program Trac9
  • Housing, food assistance, and Veteran networking

We also keep in touch with you post-discharge and love the opportunity to stay updated about your recovery efforts. Additionally, we will assist in finding new aftercare opportunities when necessary.

Bridge Care

When there isn’t current availability at a VA facility, but a veteran needs immediate help, our Bridge Care program can be the answer. With proper authorization, veterans can start receiving care at our Tactical Recovery program locations until services can be secured at a VA facility. This bridge can support veterans when they need help the most, and start them on the road to recovery sooner.

Offered at all Tactical Recovery locations, Bridge Care offers:

  • A temporary supportive environment where veterans can remain safe and sober.
  • A veteran-centric approach offering trauma-informed care to include a variety of evidence-based practices, proven to be effective in treating the veteran population.
  • Medically monitored withdrawal management.
  • Collaborative coordination with VA Medical Centers to ensure a safe bed-to-bed transfer.
  • A staff of licensed clinicians and medical professionals.
  • Additional comprehensive levels of care provided as necessary, including residential treatment and outpatient services.
