What St. Joseph Institute Can Offer to Veterans

Our nation’s Veterans, active military members, and their loved ones protect us and the land we live on. This is no small feat. The weight of responsibility that comes with being a protector is often overwhelming and has the potential to lead to a number of long-term negative effects.

Recently, our nation has seen increased rates of suicide, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance use disorders (SUDs), depression, and anxiety in populations that have served or currently serve in the military. This is why the Tactical Recovery Program (TRP) was created: to combat the psychological assaults that our Veterans sustain throughout their careers

Our implementation of Tactical Recovery involves four concrete activities that are tailored to Veterans:

  • 5 weekly sessions focused on mental health treatment, nutritional therapy, and stress-management education
  • 5 weekly peer-support group meetings to create a community and a network that normalizes the unique Veteran experience
  • A series of pain-management sessions that take place in four parts
  • Access to wellness amenities like our gym, spa, pool, whirlpool, sauna, and our popular relaxation-enhancing aqua bed massager

Upon completion of the inpatient program, our clients head to aftercare to receive counseling, gain access to sober living environments, learn about relapse prevention, and become a permanent member of a close-knit Veteran network.

The History Behind The Tactical Recovery Program

Several pieces of information demanded a program that was Veteran-centric and provided detoxification, recreational, educational, aftercare, and trauma-based services. The creation of our Tactical Recovery Veteran program acknowledges the following:

Being a Veteran is a singular experience, but grappling with mental health disorders and their treatment is neither new nor unique. That’s why Tactical Recovery utilizes all the elements of successful mental health and SUD recovery plans, like residential treatment, support systems for the family, and aftercare/outpatient programs, with each area personalized to our Veterans’ needs and perspectives.

Why Tactical Recovery in Pennsylvania Works For Our Military Members

We’re seeing a rise in all types of medical treatments for mental health, addiction, cancer, and degenerative illness, which points to just how much differences among patients do, in fact, matter when it comes to treatment options.

A growing interest in precision medicine—an approach to medicine that calls for individualized care—shows that the medical field now sees immense value in customized treatment plans. Individualized treatment is especially important when it comes to Veterans and our military members, who have endured experiences the rest of the population cannot imagine. Tactical Recovery is our way of providing precision medicine for our military members.

In addition, the professionals we employ in our Tactical Recovery program have specialized experience in treating Veterans–and many of them are Veterans themselves. Our Tactical Recovery program is a space where our clients can feel heard, seen, and welcomed. Our team provides a range of specialized knowledge in the following areas:

  • Chronic pain
  • Veteran mental health
  • Social work
  • Counseling
  • Drug and alcohol addictions
  • Behavioral and mental health disorders
  • Psychology
  • Human behavior

Our military service members have done so much to take care of us. We’re ready and excited to be the ones who can take care of them now.
